IPMS 2021/east Forum 2021

east Forum 2021 was integrated in the International Process Metallurgy Symposium (IPMS2021), 9. - 10. November 2021, at Aalto University, Espoo Helsinki, Finland.


 

Opening address by Prof. Dr. Mari Lundström, east member from Aalto University and representative of Finland.

The purpose of this international conference is to bring together researchers and industry experts to share latest results and developments in the area of process metallurgy, or extracting metals from their primary and secondary raw materials in a sustainable manner. This very successful symposium has the sub-title of “Metallurgy as a tool for challenges in circular economy”, which emphasizes the important role metallurgy and metallurgists have in solving the resource deficit in metals and minerals.

The conference was opened by east European board member and east representative of Finland, Prof. Dr. Mari Lundström, as one of the main organizers. One of the highlights of the east Forum 2021 was the prize ceremony for the Schwäbisch Gmünd Prize for Young Scientists. The winner was Mr. Konrad Eiler from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain, who gave an invited talk about nanostructuring electrocatalyst materials by electrodeposition. 

The annual general meeting of east also took place during the conference. The European board elected the executive board as follows, and the executive board reappointed the sitting president:
