Guidelines for setting the useful range of Pulse Plating parameters

8th European Pulse Plating Seminar, 2 March 2018, Vienna, Austria

The European Pulse Plating Seminar was held for the 8th time in Vienna on March 2nd 2018. The event was hosted in the Technical Museum of Vienna, ideally combining historic technical milestones with future-oriented technology. The Pulse Plating Seminar was organised by Dr. Wolfgang Hansal and colleagues from Hirtenberger Engineered Surfaces GmbH in cooperation with east. The seminar was well attended by more than 50 participants from academy and industry representing 14 different countries, enjoying the presentations and participating in fruitful discussions on this topic.

The symposium was dedicated to the memory of the late east president Prof. Pietro Luigi Cavallotti, who passed away last October. Prof. P. L. Cavallotti was in addition to many other achievements also very active in the field of pulse plating. In honour of Prof. Pietro Luigi Cavallotti, the newly founded award for achievements in Pulse-Plating, the Pietro Cavallotti Award, was given to Dr. Jean-Claude Puippe, Steiger Galvanotechnique SA, for significant research and dissemination efforts within pulse plating technique. The Award was sponsored by Hirtenberger Engineered Surfaces GmbH.

In his presentation, Dr. Jean-Claude Puippe discussed the limiting factors of pulse plating with connection electrochemical fundamentals. With the derivation of the lower and upper limits of the length of the applied pulses from capacity effects and mass transport limitations. Dr. Jean-Claude Puippe managed to give a comprehensive overview of the single dependencies of the layer properties on the deposition parameters. For this, an interactive table was presented, visualising the critical parameters when exceeding the derived limits. His presentation, guidelines for setting pulse plating parameters, and the interactive excel table, visualizing the critical parameters when exceeding the derived limit, can be download here.
